Pune-based Sparc Design Has Designed a Contemporary Bungalow That Boasts of Sophisticated Charm.
Diligence in design, spaciousness with a happy mix of different materials, textures and colours lend a fresh lease of life to a dilapidated bungalow in Kalyani Nagar, Pune. “After completely ripping down everything, we did a large amount of civil work and then proceeded with the interior finishes of this 4,500 sq. ft., two level bungalow,” explains principal architect Suhani Lal Sanghra of Sparc Design.
The home is predominantly contemporary, except for the family room, which has been rendered in the Neo Classical style. The client, a businessman and his wife and two teenaged kids share this home. Being moderately social, they mostly end up having their parents and extended family visit them, so a parents and guest bedroom have been thoughtfully designed.
A sculptural veneer band and three Buddha statues greets the visitors into the entrance lobby, whilst an existing column has been aesthetically converted into a shoe unit-cum-waiting space. As you walk further, a striking double-height living area makes a grand first impression. Gold painted duco panels frame the windows right up to the ceiling, in turn transforming into a broad framework for a large sculpted Buddha statue on the outside wall exuding a Zen-like vibe to the entire space. Customized cobalt blue and gold sofas with a brownish-gold rug juxtaposed against brown and white hues comprising a combination of white back-painted glass and veneered wooden center table; veneered TV panel and a white back-painted glass console lends a classy look.
