Standing up, ghosting, bailing (lol). Whatever it ’s called, you’ve definitely done it — but does it make you a terrible person?

Admit it — you’ve told a white lie to get out of a social gathering more than once. Bailing out has been made so easy with our smartphones, rather than being direct to someone’s face, we’re a gen that ’s spending our time on planning and then rescheduling (cancelling!) them. But if you have something serious, like legit social anxiety, then that ’s a different story. However, the remedy for this is , well , to actually go out, mix with people, and not flake. “With cognitive behavioral therapy I treat patients with social anxiety techniques to deal with negative thoughts. I actually encourage them to go out and be with people even though it ’s socially threatening to them. I need them to mix with people and meet new ones to overcome this,” says Ms R. R. Manjari, Consultant Clinical Psychologist at Gleneagles Medini Hospital. Not all ghosting is bad. And you’re not a terrible person. Here are different scenarios and how not OK it is to bail on the following.
