FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Canal Boat|June 2020
Cooking is easy. There’s no great skill involved in following the dot-to-dot instructions that have been laid out for you by someone who really knows how to do it; as long as you choose Nadiya Hussain over Yotam Ottolenghi, anybody can be a Jamie Oliver... and even The Lockdown Kitchen King himself would say cheers to that sentiment.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT

But right now, even easy cooking involves a lot more work than usual. It’s difficult to get motivated when timetables and routine have temporarily become a thing of the past, basic ingredients have garnered luxury-item status and (unfounded) scare stories about our food supply chain abound.

If you’re lucky enough to have secured yourself a supermarket home delivery, there’s no guarantee that your order will be delivered in its entirety – and are frozen breaded cod fillets really a ‘substitute’ for fresh prawns? But we gotta eat, so eat we shall – and as I search for inspiration for my family’s next dinner, I’m finding that looking back in order to look forward hugely comforting.
