Calvin Miller is prepared to pack his bags to put down roots at home
IT’S not often that a player signs a new contract at Celtic and then asserts a desire to leave the club, but Calvin Miller knows this is the best route to forge a long-term future in Paradise.
The 20-year-old put pen to paper on a one-year deal last week, committing his future with the Hoops until at least 2020. However, the Celtic Youth Academy graduate is determined to remain with the Bhoys beyond that date.
Although the left-back has trained regularly with the first-team squad under Brendan Rodgers, competition from the likes of home-grown hero, Kieran Tierney has limited his opportunities – last season, he started four times.
To continue his development and improve his prospects of breaking into the Celtic top-team on a more frequent basis, Miller needs competitive experience at the coalface of professional football.
And that’s why the Hoops youngster is targeting a loan move over the coming campaign. He believes it’ll be the making of him.
“It’s hard when we have such a big squad and everyone needs minutes and game-time,” he explained in an exclusive interview with the View.
“To play one week and not for a couple of months is quite hard as you need consistency. I need to be playing week in, week out and that’s my main focus as you’ll only become a better player in that way.
