Mikey Johnston is delighted to have committed his long-term future to Celtic after signing a new deal

CONFIDENCE is key for any winger and Mikey Johnston is not in short supply, especially after signing a new deal which will give him the next four-and-a-half years to build on his impressive development in the Hoops.

The 19-year-old was delighted to put pen to paper on a new contract last week, which will see him remain at Celtic until the summer of 2023.

Having joined Celtic’s Youth Academy system as a nine-year-old, Johnston is now approaching 10 years at the club, and he admitted that knowing Celtic wanted to keep him meant the world to him.

“I can’t stress enough how much this means to me. It’s amazing for me and my family to commit my future here,” he told the Celtic View.

“I’ve come up through the youth system and been here for so many years so I’m delighted that they want to keep me on. To have been part of this amazing club for 10 years is unreal and I’m excited for the future.

“It feels amazing that the manager wants to keep me on and has given me such a long contract. It shows me that he has confidence in me and that helps me a lot. I hope I can play my part. The club have given me a lot of confidence to go on and I’m going to try and repay them for that.”
