Great Scott

Before Scott Brown joined the 400-club, Tom Boyd was the last man to reach that milestone, and the former captain welcomed the current skipper into this elite group of Celts.

Great Scott

THE fact that Scott Brown is one of only two Celtic players since the turn of the century to have reached the 400-appearance mark merely underlines the enormity of his achievement, and it’s a moment the club captain should be truly proud of, according to Tom Boyd.

The former Hoops skipper, the only other man to have joined the 400 Club since the Millennium, knows what it takes to carve out a long-lasting and fruitful career at a club like Celtic.

From 1992 to 2003, Boyd etched his name into Paradise history, captaining the club to one of the most important title wins in 1998 to preserve Jock Stein’s nine-in-a-row achievement and latterly a domestic treble in 2001 under Martin O’Neill, alongside a host of other trophies and memorable moments.

He is rightly considered a Celtic great and still shows incredible devotion to the Hoops as a Club Ambassador, Celtic TV commentator and regular contributor to the Celtic View, and he believes Scott Brown’s landmark achievement is an indicator of an unparalleled level of consistency and faithfulness in the modern era.

Most recently Scott Brown has committed his future to the Hoops until at least 2018, and he’ll be aiming to add to the many honours he’s already won, including this season’s League Cup trophy. Tom Boyd believes all the praise and accolades that come the way of and the current Celtic captain are well-deserved.

As the last Celt to reach 400 appearances for the club, what do you make of Scott Brown’s achievement?
