I ’LL start this week’s column by taking my chance to congratulate Brendan Rodgers and the players on a monumental achievement … 63 games not out!
When I started working at Celtic last June, that tally stood at one. So in my 17 months as part of the club’s multi-media team, I haven’t seen the Bhoys lose a domestic game!
To beat the record set by Willie Maley’s Celtic side exactly 100 years later and to do it in the week leading up to the club’s 130th birthday, is truly special.
Football often seems to produce these magical coincidences, with KT donning the No.63 shirt as he kick-started the run with his first-ever senior goal in May 2016.
IT seems like a lifetime ago since I picked up the office’s battered old copy of The Essential History of Celtic to do some research into the club’s longest unbeaten runs.
As a big fan of football facts and statistics, I took great interest in looking through each of the Celtic seasons. This was back in January when Brendan’s Bhoys were hoping to eclipse another run - the 26-game unbeaten start to the 1966/67 season achieved by Jock Stein and the Lisbon Lions.
