“Winter Is Coming!” may have a completely different meaning at Winterfell, but here in Delhi, a dip in temperature primarily stands for “The Wedding Season Is Coming!!” Weddings are looked forward to by each one of us, with all the glamour, all that glitz, all the free flowing wine and the sumptuous spreads what not to love right? There is one concern though that will make your skin crawl when you are literally at the receiving end of things, and it’s called gifts.
Yes you heard it right! It may seem ridiculous (and even shallow) to suggest gifts as being a thing of worry (we all love them right?) but think about it. It is a well known fact that out of hundreds of presents that couples receive at weddings, only a handful of them make it to their homes and stay there for good. The rest are all ruthlessly discarded or wrapped up and surreptitiously recycled at someone else’s wedding. After all what will you do with truckloads of things you will never use? It is surely a migraine generating situation. So here is a list of absurd and thoughtless gifts Delhiites usually shower on each other’s weddings; read it carefully and refrain from buying these for poor helpless couples. Heard of Karma, haven’t you?
Not Flowers Again Please
Here is a secret most couples won’t tell you – they are tired of receiving super expensive bouquets! A vibrant bunch of the exotic Gloriosas from South America or a delicate bouquet of baby blue Hydrangeas might make an impressive gift on the wedding night itself but seriously how long will it last? Every time someone gives a couple a bunch of flowers they’ll probably say “Oh no! Not again!” in their minds. The night of one’s marriage is definitely not the right time to preach lessons on the transient nature of life. Delicate bunches of flowers, which wither away to crumbly dust in no time, symbolises the fact that nothing will last forever, and that, is a pretty depressing thought for a couple who have just been married. Spending oodles of money on some flowers, which will start wilting before they leave for their honeymoon, is a mindless thing to do right? No wonder couples are exhausted of receiving endless bunches of flowers.
