Ever wanted to listen in on a late-night phone chat between a #goals couple who happen to be a supermodel and a superstar musician? Don’t do that – it’s probably illegal. Except when that supermodel is our cover star Nicole Trunfio and the musician is her husband of three years, Gary Clark Jr, who is interviewing his wife for ELLE. When they spoke, Grammy-winning blues star Clark was touring his new album and filming in LA, and model and jewellery designer Trunfio was at the ranch they share in Texas.
It’s been a big few years for Trunfio. The WA-born beauty launched her jewellery brand ERTH, welcomed son Zion, now four, and daughter Gia, 20 months, and made headlines globally when she was pictured breastfeeding on the subscribers’ cover of ELLE in June 2015, kickstarting a #normalizebreastfeeding conversation. She’s now preparing to fly back to Australia for the Melbourne Cup Carnival where, as a guest of the Victoria Racing Club, she’ll attend Kennedy Oaks Day, hold court in the 1 Oliver St marquee in The Birdcage and judge the national finals of Myer Fashions On The Field. Despite her jetsetting career, it’s being at home with her family that brings Trunfio the most joy – something abundantly clear when she spoke to Clark. On the eve of her latest cover shoot for ELLE, they chatted about their parenting philosophy, missing each other and their next big joint project, baby No.3!
Gary Clark Jr: Hello love, you sound sleepy. Where are you?
Nicole Trunfio: I’m in bed.
GC: I’m calling in the middle of a video shoot in Los Angeles. Crazy, huh?
NT: You’re shooting the video for your song “Pearl Cadillac”.
GC: How are you and the kids while I’m away on tour?
NT: We’re great. Not having you around is difficult, but such is life.
