Bridging UK and Northeast India

For the last 70 years, the British Council has helped the region grow and develop in more ways than one

Off late, the Northeast has become the centre of development as a result of the Act East Policy. The focus has been on trade, education, tourism, art and culture. Agencies like the British Council have always lent a hand to the development of the region. In order to take it one step forward, they signed a MoU with the Northeastern Council (NEC), which is a parent body in NE, for developmental activities in areas of education and culture. We speak to Debanjan Chakraborty, Director of the East and Northeast for British Council to know more.

Educate, Empower

‘British Council has carved out cultural and educational collaborations with the eight states of the Northeast. Through the channels of DoNER Ministry, we plan to reach out to maximum people. To be specific about our plans, we have three major thrust areas of focus–English language and capacity building training programs for teachers and also civil servants of the states, skill development in sports activities, higher educational collaborations and work in the field of arts,’ shared Chakraborty.
