Dhekiakhowa Bornaamghar is home to a ‘Bor Saki’ that has been burning for more than 484 years
Established by Shri Shri Madhavdev in 1461, Dhekiakhowa Bornaamghar has been an important centre for neo-Vaishnavite religion, propagated by Srimanta Sankardeva, in Assam since then. There is an interesting tale about the establishment of this famous naamghar (prayer house). According to locals, during his quest to spread the Ekasarana Dharma, Shri Shri Madhavdev took shelter for the night in the hut of an old woman who served him a meal of rice and dekhia xaak (fiddlehead green), which is a local green found across Assam. Though the old woman was unhappy to serve the Saint Guru such a simple meal, Shri Shri Madhavdev was immensely pleased to have such a humble meal. He then decided to establish a naamghar in the village, giving the old woman the added responsibility of kindling the earthen lamp. This earthen lamp has been burning ever since, religiously refuelled by the temple priests every day.

MUSINGS OF A SOLDIER: TIT-BITS
People often ask me about my life out of uniform. Honestly, I have had no problems. Not so far. Instead, I find it quite refreshing. No routine, no parades, no briefing, no impending operations. Having donned the uniform since the age of thirteen until I hung up my boots last year, could I ever visualize life out of uniform? Not really. But, as I said, the transition has been quite smooth–no hang-overs, no regrets. People have been very positive in their interactions. Government departments have been responsive whenever I have approached for assistance. The genuine respect for the uniform is quite evident and it makes my heart swell with pride. Arunachal, to that extent, is the most nationalistic state in the country, I daresay. It has been kind of a revelation for me to experience the freedom of being a common man in an environment of positivity!
