10 for '20
Esquire Singapore|October 2020
2020 may have been the year in which everything slowed down, but at least where watches are concerned, it’s been a blockbuster. These are the 10 we have our eyes on.

CARTIER TANK ASYMÉTRIQUE It’s truly a wonderful thing that Cartier brought back its newly curated Privé collection, in which the new Tank Asymétrique sits alongside other highly collectible timepieces such as the Crash and the Tonneau—so quintessentially Cartier you couldn’t mistake them for anything else. Joining the ranks of this ultraelegant brethren, Tank Asymétrique stretches across five references done in a melange of precious metals. Yet it’s not a flatout copy of the 1936 piece. Imbued with modernised hour markers complete with a triple-horn case, the skeletonised models are especially compelling for the stylised bridges cut in the style of Roman numerals.

H.MOSER & CIE STREAMLINER CENTRE SECONDS

When you thought you’d seen just about every possible permutation of the stainless steel luxury sports watch with an integrated bracelet, H. Moser shakes up the game. The Streamliner Centre Seconds follows through with what the Streamliner Chrono started in January 2020, offering a vintage-inspired aesthetic that’s bizarrely reminiscent of the ’70s. Bizarre, because according to H. Moser, Streamliner actually references the first high-speed trains from the ’20s and ’30s. We think it might have something to do with the subtle, organic form of its curvaceous case which is enveloped with rounded edges and smoothed-out corners, combined with the fluidity of its mono-link bracelet exuding a kind of Marc Newson-esque vibe.
