Whether you’d like to be fitter, learn something new or land a better role at work, chances are you’ve got an aspect of your life that you’d like to improve. But setting a goal and reaching it are two very different things. So, how exactly do you keep that motivation fired up, stay on track and ace your goals? We have advice from the experts to help you reach them...
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE?It sounds obvious, but when you set yourself a goal, make sure it’s something you want enough to be able to put the work in. ‘Sometimes we pick goals that are other people’s rather than our own, especially when it comes to health and fitness,’ reveals mindset coach, Ruth Kudzi. To establish if our goals are authentically ours, neurolinguistic programming practitioner Rebecca Lydon suggests we start by thinking about what we want overall from life. ‘I always recommend people think about what they want to feel, what they want to do, where they want to be, then work from there,’ she explains. ‘After this, they can choose more concrete goals, which help them work towards their overall ideals.’ Having these ‘life targets’ can help us to hone in on something that will make us feel a sense of achievement in both the short- and long-term – with completion seen as a victory and also part of a larger journey.
