With 2021 witnessing Aarke by Ritu Ku-mar under Amrish, he is seen bringing the gap between designer wear and accessibility. In conversation with GlobalSpa, Amrish lets us in on his enthralling journey of being an entrepreneur and leading the eponymous heritage of Ritu Kumar.
1. How has the journey been for you taking over the legacy?
My journey began in 2002 with the launch of Label Ritu Kumar. Label was our first foray into mainstream fashion, it was our chance to offer great designs in western pret at a competitive price point. It was an uphill battle from there - the market was not particularly indicative of any trends at the time, and the market for what we were offering was minuscule. But we persevered and saw success over time. It took a few years for Label to garner success and momentum, and now we have over fifty stores across the country. Rome wasn’t built in a day. It has been a difficult road but we’re working hard and seeing our efforts pay off.
2. You have had several new launches in the past year, from the Organic Edit to Label Basics. You have also launched a homeware collection. What keeps you inspired?
