The first Dorado (Spanish for ‘golden’) went on sale in 2016 and garnered widespread critical acclaim. The Dorado 2020 we have here: “breathes new life into the name and the legacy of the original with a fresh take on the classic hybrid design” according to the company literature. Hybrid? It’s Campfire’s thing and refers to the mixture of driver tech: one balanced armature, one dynamic driver, no crossover. Not quite as pure as the single-driver A&K and Sennheiser, then, but Campfire cites advantages in frequency response while avoiding the challenges of IEMs with overly complex crossover schemes. The eight-driver Oriveti would certainly qualify as one of those.
