Even in a town as artistically fertile as Nashville, Big and Rich carries weight. The powerhouse twosome Big Kenny and John Rich started making music together in the 90’s, twenty years later they're still going strong and have just released a new album 'Did it for the Party', released on September 15th.
Maverick's Eric Dahl caught up with Big Kenny in the heart of Music City to talk about their new music.
Do you feel “Did it for the Party” will beat the success of your last album that had 3 top ten hits?
Yes, without a shadow of a doubt! This album is going to continue the progress of Big & Rich on Big & Rich records. We just put ourselves in such a unique place to have three hits on that album now to come out with another new Big & Rich project is like, oh wow, we have momentum. We believe that we’re at the best place we’ve ever been in our careers.
How does Big & Rich continue pushing the musical envelope?
John and I met as songwriters. So songwriting has really been the pinnacle of what we both aspire to do. One of the reasons that we clicked so well when we first met is that he was opened minded to other styles and influences. On this record we change up rhythmically a lot and we alter styles but it’s still Big & Rich. We want our records to be a ride and take you on a journey of stuff that has moved us during our lives.
Will the tour extend to the UK and Europe?
I’m glad you brought that up! Because there have been ongoing conversations this year about us starting in the UK next year. We want to get over there and bring the Big & Rich music to all of the fans in the UK and Europe!
What is your favorite song on the new album?
