Over a quarter of Irish mums admit the biggest pressure of parenting comes from themselves. WaterWipes is celebrating the highs and lows of parenting, and encouraging mums to be kinder to themselves.
New research has revealed the joys and challenges of parenthood; from the highest highs to the lowest lows. Over one in four (30%) of mums polled admitted the biggest pressure to be a good parent comes from themselves. Similarly, dads also put the most amount for pressure on themselves with over a quarter of dads (27%) admitting they’re hard on themselves.
WaterWipes conducted the research amongst Irish mums and dads as part of their new ‘When a Baby is Born, a Parent is Born’ campaign. Focusing on the joys and challenges of parenthood, WaterWipes hopes to highlight the highs, lows and transformative moments of having a baby. Making a deliberate stand against ‘perfect parenting’, the world’s purest baby wipes celebrate all parents by taking an honest, authentic and exhilarating look at parenthood.
Almost two thirds (65%) of parents polled believe having a baby has been the biggest milestone of their lives so far which compares with just 13% who viewed getting married as their most momentous milestone. When asked what they missed most from pre-parenthood life, almost a quarter of mums polled (24%) chose having personal time top of their list, whilst over one in four dads (27%) agreed they too missed personal time the most.
Despite the biggest source of pressure coming from themselves, over a quarter of Irish mums (26%) wish they weren’t judged so much as a parent, with 23% wanting the confidence to trust their own instincts.
The highs: All it takes is a smile; almost two thirds (61%) of parents agree all it takes to experience a parenting high is seeing your child smile or laugh, with the best milestone moments they will treasure being:
