Alfa Surprises With An SUV

STEPHEN SMITH goes for a spin in the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and loves it.

Alfa Surprises With An SUV

I’m an unashamed Alfisti – I love Alfa Romeos and have since a 70s GTV first burbled into my field of vision before I was a teenager. Back then they were cheap as chips, but I still couldn’t afford a nice one by the time I was driving. Instead I bought an Alfa Giulietta that had none of the class, but a whole lot of charm. The only downside of this 1.8-litre Italian sedan was that it was usually broken or thinking of new ways to be broken – not a good fault for your fishing vehicle to suffer from.

That was the first and last Alfa I owned, but I drove an Alfa Romeo GT for a few months back in 2007, and that was pretty close to the Alfa of my dreams. And now Alfa has gone and made an SUV.
