Yamini and Bhavana Reddy, the talented daughters of legendary dancers, Radha, Raja and Kaushalya Reddy, are youth icons in the true sense of the word.
Yamini and Bhavana Reddy are two sides of a sparkling coin. It is well known that Kuchipudi dancers Yamini and Bhavana Reddy hail from a unique and distinguished family. Here is a family where five is company, not a crowd. Their parents have created a niche for themselves as great classical artistes in the world. Quite obviously, Yamini and Bhavana have inherited their genes when it comes to dance. While most other professions could be handed over as legacy to children, performing classical arts can’t be simply bequeathed.
To these sisters, dance comes as naturally as leaves to a tree. If Yamini is like a bonfire, Bhavana is the buoyant rivulet. If the fiery majestic ‘Shiva Act’ appeals to Yamini, Bhavana is all about the agile, mischievous ‘Krishna Leela’. Their physiques too complement them while adorning the guise of their favourite deities.
Both the sisters have extensively performed on global platforms alongside their legendary parents and also at all the top league dance festivals of India. Yamini has been awarded the Desadasi National Award, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, the Yuva Ratna Award by the District Rotaract Organisation and the Young Achievers Award by FICCI. Bhavana, meanwhile, joined the hall of fame as a Kuchipudi exponent, but with the added dimension of a Hollywood returned singer-songwriter. The unique blend of Indian classical dance and western music won her accolades as the YFLO Young Women Achievers Award, the IWC International Lifetime Achievement Award and the Lifetime Award for Contribution to Kuchipudi Dance by the Telugu Cultural Association, Austin, Texas and more.
