Until the 1950s, most people considered sleep to be a passive aspect of our daily lives. Thanks to years of research and scientific advances, sleep is now regarded as an active process in which a great deal of processing and restoration takes place in our body and mind.

Healthy sleep also keeps your body healthy and prevents diseases. Your brain cannot work properly without enough sleep. Sleep is important for processing and storing memories from the day, so not getting enough of it can make it difficult to concentrate and think effectively.

We all require sleep in order to perform properly at work and at home. Sleep deprivation has been related to chronic diseases and disorders such as heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, and an increased risk of diabetes and depression, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to research, adequate duration, good quality, regularity, and the absence of disturbances are all required for healthy sleep. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends that adults should sleep seven hours or more per night on a regular basis to promote optimal health, however, daily sleep allotment differs for different age groups.
