The first Mi TV in India is smart and sexy as hell
Xiaomi revolutionised the smartphone market when they commenced their operations in India back in 2014. They brought quality, feature-packed smartphones at affordable price points. Now the company is trying to adopt a similar strategy for a completely different product category - televisions. The Mi LED Smart TV 4 aka Mi TV 4 is their first offering for the Indian market and this month we take an in-depth look to see if it’s worth the asking price.
Despite selling TVs in China for many years, Xiaomi’s maiden TV for India does not look like a ‘launch-and-forget’ product. In fact, it’s evident from the packaging to design and software, Xiaomi has carefully thought and localised it for the Indian market.
DESIGN
The Mi TV 4 is strikingly beautiful. Sure, we have few TVs that look as good as Mi TV 4 but they are priced way higher than what Xiaomi sells their TV for. The Mi TV 4 is just 4.9mm thin with a frameless design and features an almost-zero gap display, which is a result of Corning’s Iris Glass light guide plate. The back is covered with metal to add some durability to the large screen and hosts conveniently located power, USB and HDMI ports. It comes with one USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0 ports, three HDMI 2.0 ports, an Ethernet slot and S/PDIF. Overall, we really liked the design of the Mi TV 4 and despite it being fragile, the Mi TV 4 can be mounted either on a wall or on a table with the help of an aluminium alloy stand, which is included with the TV.
