"I wished I was a doctor; maybe I could have saved him," Dr Edwin Ong, medical director of RMDY Clinic, confides when we ask why he became a doctor. "My grandfather, whom I was very close to, died suddenly of a heart attack when I was 11. That triggered my interest in medicine.

"However, the decision to make it my profession evolved gradually. I was fascinated by the human body; its complexity still amazes me. I also realised that, as a physician, I could make a difference in others' lives by helping them to protect their health."

At RMDY (pronounced remedy), which he opened in Joo Chiat in March 2022, Dr Ong advocates a holistic and integrative approach to health and wellness. You shouldn't wait until you feel unwell and require treatment to see a doctor, he points out.
