As a nation that prides itself on its food scene, we tend to spend too much time chasing the next culinary fad, and too little on understanding what we have. Taking traditional local fare for granted exposes us to the possibility that generations-old dishes could be lost.
This is the problem that Handpicked (www.handpicked. mysingaporefood.com) addresses through its locally made traditional noodles, and with the help of its sister site, My Singapore Food (www. mysingaporefood.com). The latter is a carefully curated archive of time-honoured dishes, and is aimed at preserving family heirloom recipes. “I believe dishes leave a strong food memory on each of us,” says Karen Nah, founder of the two online platforms.
