With a new album just released, classical supergroup Il Divo reveal the secret to their success and why they feel so at home here
Music mogul Simon Cowell spent two years travelling the world in the hunt to find the right men to join the perfect group. And so was born the multi-national band, Il Divo.
Consisting of Urs Buhler (47) from Switzerland, Carlos Marin (50) from Spain, David Miller (45) from America and Sebastien Izambard (45) from France, the group have sold 30 million albums globally and had 160 gold and platinum albums in 33 countries.
Performing stunning covers of well-known and classic hits, over the years they’ve sung several times for the Queen, for former American President Barack Obama, and toured the US with Barbra Streisand.
“Once when we were performing at Madison Square Garden in New York, there was a knock on our dressing room door, and it was Hilary Clinton. She said she was a big fan of ours,” says Carlos.
Their latest album, Timeless, is just out. And they are particularly proud of an Adele cover song. Carlos says: “We got the approval of Adele to use her song, Hello, on the album. She loved our Spanish language version. We were really proud about that.”
And currently on a 15th anniversary global tour, the group say they have no plans to slow down.
“Not at all,” says David “But the international travel can take its toll on the body and we all go to the gym and take care of ourselves.”
The group credit their ages, as well as their previous solo careers, for their ongoing success and strong work ethic.
