Firstly I must say that it is both an honour and a privilege to be a Breed Club Secretary especially for such an old and high profile Club as The Silkie Club which has been in existence since 1886.
I was somewhat bullied into doing the job in December 2012, I really felt that I was too new to the fancy to for fill the role, having been only showing seriously for a few years and being made care taker of a group of people that were so experienced and of whom I was in complete awe of to be honest was daunting to say the least. I knew I would be following in some pretty influential footsteps and thought that I would seriously be biting off considerably more than I could chew!!! How wrong I was, everybody welcomed me with open arms, they patiently let me settle into the role (which I can honestly say took me a good year before I felt confidently like I was any where near actually helping the club) and are probably now regretting it bitterly as I am by self admission a typical Leo and am extremely bossy when I get going!!!! Sorry!!!
Anyway ….. I thought the (voluntary) job might take a bit of time out of my life to do properly, I did not expect it to be quite so all encompassing, but neither did I expect it to be quite so enjoyable. I can safely say what folk think is involved and what actually is involved are at totally opposite ends of the proverbial spectrum.

What is Rare?
It would be accurate to say that many breeders and fanciers are currently concerned about their particular breed in terms of how it is regarded officially, and some may be unaware of who is looking after their interests as far as protection measures go in the face of any government-imposed cull.
