The Beast Is Back!
Flex Magazine UK Edition|May 2019

After a difficult spell, some find it hard to get back into the swing of competition. Not the case for Azeez. If anything, he is more fired up than ever before. FLEX caught up with The Beast to see what’s different this time around. What does Azeez have in store for when he steps on stage against some of the best in the UK?

How is this prep different compared to others in the past?

The difference is, this time I’ve done it all myself. I’ve had to plan everything. In previous preps, I’ve just followed what I have been told to do. But now it’s just me. I have put a strategic plan together, in this plan I have set timings for everything in my daily routine. I find this works for me, as I don’t have to worry or think about anything. That way, I can concentrate on the win.

Do you worry that doing your own prep alleviates the accountability of having someone watching over you?

Not at all. If anything, I have put more pressure on myself, because if I don’t win, then it’s only myself that I can blame. I don’t have a coach to shift the blame onto. There is definitely more pressure this way, but it feels different. By that, I mean, I don’t want to look silly, or let my followers and mum down. She even said that she has never seen me this determined before.

Do you feel that without a coach, at the last moment before you step on stage, you may question yourself and that could kill your confidence?
