Yokomo hones its YZ series with a dirt-specific design

Yokomo YZ-2 DT

Since the brand first appeared in the boom years of the 1980s, Yokomo has been deeply embedded in racing. And with a long list of legendary drivers, including Masami Hirosaka and Ronald Volker, and hot up-and-comers, like Carson Wernimont, behind the wheel, there’s never been a shortage of talent and experience to help refine Yokomo’s race cars. In the electric off-road area, its YZ-2 platform has been mixing it up with the best for a couple of years now. For its latest iteration, Yokomo has abandoned a single do-all car in favor of two separate models for specific surfaces: the YZ-2 DT Edition (for dirt) and the YZ-2 CA Edition (for carpet/Astroturf). The DT gets the Performance Test treatment here. The buggy is outfitted nicely with all the modern tuning options and parts; they include a ball differential, big-bore X33 shocks, aluminum-milled chassis, flat front arms, and a 3-gear/graphite transmission, which most would consider “stand-up” to help generate the needed chassis roll for dirt/clay tracks. We will put the car through its paces on an indoor clay track to see what it’s all about. Let’s take a closer look.
