Pryor: Too Good To Be True?
The symbol of the Washington Redskins rise or fall this season may be Terrelle Pryor, the former Ohio State quarterback turned receiver.
Observers are salivating at the prospects of Pryor – the free agent signed this off season to help replace the departed Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson – being quarterback Kirk Cousins’ favorite target and finally a worthy target for coach Jay Gruden’s favorite play – the fade route. They are enamored at his size – 6-feet-4, 230 pounds – and to see him in person, he looks like the biggest pass catcher in the history of the NFL.
Count Gruden among the ones who are salivating and enamored.
“He’s a physical freak,” Gruden said in the early days of training camp. “So we’re excited to have him and we’re going to continue to work with him. We just have to keep working. Kirk and Terrelle just have to get together so they get on the same page, get to know each other not only on the field but off the field.”
That shouldn’t be hard for Pryor, according to Gruden.
“He’s picked up the system effortlessly,” he said. “He asks good questions, has great logic when he is asking questions, wants to add more stuff for himself, like most quarterbacks would do. He’s been outstanding really. I just like the fact that he’s a very bright guy, understands coverages, understands where the ball should go and route concepts, which is very big. He is a very smart receiver, now it’s just about polishing up the little things and the details of each route and we’re working with him on that.”
Pryor has said and done all the right things to believe that he will be a significantly impactful figure on the football field for Washington this season.
