Take The Power Back

The wait for new music from TWIN ATLANTIC is over! And with fifth LP POWER, the Glasgow rockers have not only reinvented themselves – they’ve also done so entirely on their own terms…

Take The Power Back

A lot has changed in the three years since Twin Atlantic put out their fourth album GLA. There have been milestones for both the band and their fans. The world has grown stranger and more divided. The rules of rock, meanwhile, have fallen away into near-insignificance.

The band are prepping to return on their own uncompromising terms with their tellingly-titled fifth LP, Power. Although they recently signed with Virgin EMI, they produced the album themselves without outside interference from a record label. Maintaining their upbeat energy and anthemic sensibilities, but steering into what frontman Sam McTrusty calls “dark, euphoric electro”, this is the sound of Twin’s redefinition of what rock can be.

“I’m kinda annoyed,” the singer laughs. “I always try to avoid clichés, but we really do feel like a new band. We made this record without a label. We self-produced. We didn’t have anyone to answer to. So, as much as it is a cliché, we feel like that because this is the first time we’ve worked like this…”

You’ve been teasing this return since back in January, Sam. How does it finally feel to be back?

“It feels good! We’ve been doing this for a while now, and we know what it’s like to have been working on music for a long time, but with Power, it’s a unique feeling: this is the first time that everything is really on us.”

Power feels like an audacious title. Unpack it for us, please…
