Armaan Mallik And Amaal Mallik: Not A Duo

Brothers by blood, they decided to climb the peak of success through different routes. Carving their niche separately, they promptly clear the air of not being a team in the interview. Armaan Mallik, barely 20, has a decade old experience while his brother, Amaal Mallik, the intense looking composer has been through struggles at the age of 24 and managed to strike gold at the end of the tunnel. Different yet alike, Nawaz Kochra tries to decode this non-duo.

Honestly, did being a nephew of Anu Malik help you?

I don’t think so, because I started my career on my own. I participated in a reality show called Sare Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs unlike any person hailing from a celebrity family. That boosted my career and it was a great experience. Till date I haven’t sung for my uncle or my dad, but now I am planning to do a single with my dad. I am glad that I have reached here on my own, due to my hard work and my mom backing my efforts.

With a very impressive discography, how have you grown as a singer?

I have so many songs to sing, I have already sung for 35 films, and that has increased my confidence. I remember starting to sing in Bollywood movies from the age of 10 the first one being in Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii for Salim-Sulaiman, then Bhootnath with Vishal-Shekhar, Taare Zameen Par, Chillar Party and Hanuman Returns. From there to debuting in Jai Ho as an adult playback singer till now has been a great journey. Each song brings a sort of professionalism that comes into my singing and my approach. I’m glad that transition has happened.

How is your equation with Salman Khan?

Salman bhai is a mentor to both me and Amaal, we feel very lucky to have his support with us. I remember when I went to him to play my album there was this song Love You Till The End… Tumko Toh Aana Hi Tha and he said the song would go waste if it is put in an album and it should come in a movie. He put the song In Jai Ho and that is how our debut happened. Since then we always play him our new songs.

What do you feel about Honey Singh and his genre of singing?
