Were it not for the lifeline from the Dubai based Emirates, the A380 would have faced certain extinction. Ever since the Super Jumbo started flying in 2007, Airbus has been trying hard to find takers across continents and Emirates was the biggest: it has 100 of them with the last one joining the fleet in November last year. Till date, however, the European aircraft manufacturer has only delivered 222 of the behemoths to 13 airlines. A few days before the order, Airbus bosses had gone on record to say that the A380 assembly line would have to be wound up if no big orders came in.
