Having seen three of his films released this month, actor Vijay Sethupathi is putting his faith in the power of cinema

After Karthik Subbaraj’s Pizza (2012), horror briefly became the breakout genre in Tamil cinema. Though Vijay Sethupathi kickstarted the wave, he staunchly refused to be part of it. Many similar roles came his way, and he refused them all. “They weren’t scary enough,” he says. Nine years later, a horror comedy by another debutant Deepak Sundarrajan has found him—Annabelle Sethupathi (now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar). He might have refused offers then, but now we see him everywhere—partly due to release delays attributed to the pandemic—but also because he is ready to work with anyone he finds interesting and shares his vibe.
