The Tawang Festival, which entered into its fifth year this year, was born out of an initiative of Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu when he was the state Tourism Minister in 2012.
And over the years the festival established itself as a cultural showcase at an international platform. The alluring tradition and culture of the state is brilliantly displayed in the festival.
The 5th Tawang Festival was declared open on October 26 by the state Chief Minister Pema Khandu in presence of North Eastern Council (NEC) secretary Ram Muivah, RWD parliamentary secretary Jambey Tashi, Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi and Tourism secretary Dr Joram Beda. Making the occasion even more beautiful, school children released hundreds of balloons in air.
The four-day festivity included exhibition stalls, flower show, cultural medley, ethnic dress show, herbal medicine stalls, indigenous games and sports and food stall serving ethnic tribal cuisines. Street carnival at Old Market with hundreds of performers performing traditional dances in their vibrant traditional attires was one of the highlights of the festival.
