One loves travelling to places which are rarely heard of, to enjoy the remoteness and the quiet.
Between India and Myanmar are the breathtaking myriad hues of mountains and rivers so perfect and so calm that among those mountains and rivers, is a place called Eastern Nagaland. A fascinating world of wild and primitive nature. The environment and the air so pristine and calm that it is almost like a journey to a forgotten world. An ideal getaway for someone who wants to experience peace and serenity.
Eastern Nagaland comprises four districts in Nagaland. The area is inhabited by the six tribes of Konyak, Phom, Chang, Sangtam, Yimchunger and Khiamniungan. The state government has given these districts the following sobriquets: Tuensang district—the land of culture, Mon district—the land of the anghs, Longleng district—the land of peace and Kiphire district—the land of minerals. Geographically located along the Indo-Myanmar border, Eastern Nagaland is less impacted by globalisation, modern culture and development. Eastern Nagaland to the outside world is an enigma, perhaps because many have not even heard the name and are only aware of Nagaland as a state in general. The inhabitants of the region embody the spirit of unity in diversity in its truest sense. When one meets somebody from the area, the person is likely to introduce himself or herself by saying, “I am from the ENPO Area,” meaning Eastern Nagaland. The enchanted window through which one sees poetry, folklore, dance, history, the mystical topography and their way of life is yet to be opened to the outside world.
