In fact it was Aldershot and a costly mistake by their goalkeeper Mitch Walker who let the victory out of their grasp and allowed Max Kretzschmar to net the winner.

The Shots had already let a one-goal lead slip after Josh Davison equalised late in the opening period to cancel out Mo Bettamer’s sixth-minute opener before Walker’s error.

The EBB Stadium was unusually quiet for a local derby due to the lack of fans, but the passion was still there on the pitch which spilled over at fulltime.

Both teams clashed in an ugly melee after Josh Casey celebrated in front of the dugouts as the whistle blew, reminiscent of the over-the-top celebrations by Shots left-back Lewis Kinsella after their 1-0 victory at Kingfield last year.

Aldershot manager Danny Searle went chasing after the Woking captain before both teams and substitutes piled in.
