DID he or didn’t he? Arguments will continue to rage over whether Elisha Sam’s wonder goal for Notts County was genius or pure luck long after the rest of this entertaining FA Trophy tie is forgotten.

Sam maintains he meant his backheel volley that bemused Oxford goalkeeper Ben Dudzinski in the 73rd minute, Notts assistant manager Greg Abbott was non-committal and City boss David Oldfield understandably made no comment.

There looked to be little immediate danger when left-back Adam Chicksen curled a cross into the box but Sam, almost casually, stuck out a leg with his back to goal and flicked it over the Oxford goalkeeper before beginning to milk the moment.
