The Pilgrims get their National League North campaign underway next weekend when they welcome Spennymoor Town.

For Grimsby, the wait for the kick-off is a little longer, as they look to make their return to Non-League as brief as possible in an intimidating-looking division.

Despite the result manager Paul Hurst, who had a successful spell in the Pilgrims’ dug-out, was not overly enthused.

“I thought we did some good things, certainly in the first half we looked a threat,” he said.

“Second half we changed the system and the longer it went we struggled to really get out of our half.”

His side ought to have been ahead after just seven minutes but, having been set free by John McAtee’s through ball, Seb Revan produced a tame effort which Peter Crook thwarted with an outstretched right leg.
