COVID call-offs, floodlight failures, an abandoned game, a postponed homecoming, and a blank November, it’s fair to say Craig Elliott’s Boston United have had an even more unusual start to the 2020- 21 season than most.

Currently finishing up their second spell of isolation, boss Elliott can at least take solace in the fact his Pilgrims – who started the season ground-sharing at Gainsborough Trinity – have played well this season, won three and drawn one of their four National League North games, and were eighth in the table coming into another blank weekend.

A rearranged game with AFC Fylde at the end of the month will be their only fulfilled fixture of November – fingers crossed – after their game against Darlington was abandoned late on following a worrying head injury to Darlo’s Nicky Hunt.

“It’s been a crazy few opening weeks to the season,” Elliott told The NLP. “We’re in a good position. If we’d played Bradford PA and won, we’d have gone top, which would have been a big thing for us. Now by the time we come back, we could be 12 or 13 points behind playing catch up. The table is not a big problem. It’s more the mental side of it with the players.
