GOOGLE has been forced to reveal it hands Apple up to £12billion a year to ensure its search engine is the default on its Safari browsers.

The figure a 36% cut of Google's advertising revenue was meant to remain a secret.

But it was revealed during an antitrust trial against the search engine, where it stands accused of illegally maintaining its monopoly.

The details were disclosed by Kevin Murphy, a University of Chicago professor called by Google to testify in its defence at the trial at the federal courthouse in Washington.
