‘Together We Will Beat This Enemy'

Captain Tom Moore has a 100th birthday battle cry for Britons.

The war hero is calling on us all to pull together to defeat coronavirus. As he celebrates his milestone today, he said the nation can see off the invisible enemy by standing firm and as one.

Capt Tom said: “As you will have come to know, I sincerely believe that we as a nation must always stand together, united and undivided by class, race or religion.

“The only way we will defeat this invisible enemy is to stand shoulder to shoulder, and never walk alone.

“Please stay home, stay safe. Tomorrow will be a good day.”

His message of hope came as the total from his sponsored walk passed £29.5million yesterday.

And the Daily Express, his favourite newspaper, threw a birthday surprise for him, delivering champagne and a cake so he could celebrate in style.

As well as the spectacular sweet treat depicting his garden challenge for the NHS, grateful Capt Tom also received a bottle of his favourite tipple, single malt whisky. He had a card signed on behalf of our army of readers too.

Humbled

Raising a glass and flanked by his family, Capt Tom said: “I am deeply grateful to everyone at the Daily Express for presenting me with this absolutely amazing, wonderful, and beautiful cake.

“I am truly humbled because I never expected anything like this. You are wonderful.

“It’s strange. One day I am 99 and then the next I am 100. To be honest, I don’t feel any different, and there is plenty of life in the old dog yet, I am sure.
