Our rate of inflation is among the highest in the G7 nations, the Office for National Statistics said yesterday.

And with food price inflation at more than 17%, only the Germans are suffering a bigger hike in their grocery bills.

A poll today reveals one in six parents has gone hungry so they can afford to feed their children. Spiralling bills have forced one in four to skip meals.

Nearly one in two parents (48%) say they have started looking for reduced items, while 51% have switched to a cheaper supermarket.
