The Government yesterday gave the go-ahead to start building the HS2 rail project.
The Department for Transport’s “notice to proceed” allows work to begin on phase one of the high-speed route, from London to the West Midlands.
Transport minister Andrew Stephenson said: “While the Government’s top priority is rightly to combat the spread of coronavirus, protect the NHS and save lives, we cannot delay work on our plan to level up the country.”
