Covid-19 Cases In India Hit Big Number, But Fight Is On

As government keeps on stressing high recovery rate and what it called a comparatively low death toll, Shah said that India is at a ‘good position in the battle against the pandemic’

India’s COVID-19 infections stood at 8,49,553 as of Sunday morning. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said the death toll has reached 22,674.

While 2,92,258 cases are active, 5,15,386 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals.

As the government kept on stressing the high recovery rate and what it called a comparatively low death toll, Union Home minister Amit Shah said on Sunday that India is at a “good position” in the battle against the pandemic.

“The country will fight the disease with determination and enthusiasm,” he said after participating in a mega plantation drive initiated by the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

“The world is seeing that if a successful battle has been fought anywhere across the globe against the coronavirus it is India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Shah said.

“It was feared that how would a large country like ours would face this challenge given that we have a federal structure of governance, dense population of 130 crore people and no single chain of command,” Shah said.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh moved for a five-day week, with the state shut on Saturday and Sunday, as it geared up to boost its fight against the pandemic.
