TRUCKERS will get €100 per lorry every week to help with spiralling fuel costs as the Government last night accepted it could take days for cuts in excise rates to translate into savings on the forecourt.

Motorists had been outraged when fuel companies jacked up prices a day before the Government slashed excise on petrol and diesel – effectively giving drivers no benefit from the relief measure.

Prices are still sky-high with drivers paying over €2 per litre despite the Government cutting the excise duty on petrol and diesel by 20c and 15c.

But now its seems the Government has accepted assurances from fuel suppliers that savings will be passed on to motorists in coming days as a result of a delay between when stock is bought by retailers and when it is sold on the forecourt.
