IRISH criminals are using art to launder their dirty money, but the Department of Justice has launched a new clampdown against the move.
It is stepping up regulatory inspections of traders and intermediaries under changes in legislation which came into effect last year.
Top art detective Arthur Brand explained how it has always been used by crooks - Irish and others based abroad - to whitewash their money, Using paintings by Pablo Picasso as an example, he told the Irish Mirror: “Art is also a very interesting thing to invest your money in.
