PM gives sympathy ...but power's still out

BORIS Johnson has offered his sympathy to those still left without power more than a week after Storm Arwen and praised the emergency services, engineers and the Armed Forces helping in the worst areas.

Around one million homes were blacked out across the country following the storm, where winds hit 98mph.

As of last night, just over 4,700 homes were still without power in parts of Scotland, Cumbria and Northumberland.

And the Met Office put a weather warning in place south of Edinburgh, with the possibility of 4-8cm of snow over the highest roads, with a "slushy cover of a 1-2cm at lower levels".

Meteorologist Simon Partridge said some parts of the country could see snow into the middle of the week.
