Both the premier trains offer luxury travel experiences but the Vande Bharat comes with a hefty price tag that is 237.16 per cent higher than that of the Shatabdi, according to the information received following the RTI query by Surat based activist Sanjay Ezhava.
The reply to the query states that one Vande Bharat coach costs a staggering Rs6.52 crore, compared to just Rs2.75 crore for a Shatabdi coach. This translates to a total construction cost of Rs104.32 crore for just the coaches of a 16-coach Vande Bharat trains compared to Rs44.02 crore for a 22-coach Shatabdi Express.
