Monsoon Fury: Rail Services Hit, Commuters Stranded

Lakhs of Mumbaikars were stranded across stations for hours on Wednesday as train services on all major sections on the suburban network were suspended due to acute waterlogging.

Train services were first suspended between Vasai and Virar after tracks were flooded in Nallasopara around noon. The Western Railway (WR) had faced a similar issue earlier this year and last year, when the section was shut for over 48 hours. With each passing hour, more sections on all key railway lines were suspended as water levels rose.

Services between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Thane were suspended at 1 p.m. and sections on the Harbour Line were shut due to waterlogging in Sion, Kurla, Matunga, Mulund, Chunabhatti and Wadala. The line from Belapur to Kharkopar, which was opened last year, was shut after there were mudslides under the tracks.
