New Delhi: The city recorded 496 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, the biggest single-day spike since June 4. Tuesday also saw one Covid-19 fatality and positivity rate of 0.89%, the highest since May 31. On June 4, 523 cases were reported with a positivity rate of 0.68%.
In all, 23 new cases of Omicron variant were recorded on Tuesday, taking the tally to 165, which is the second-highest in the country after Maharashtra that has 167 cases.
Sources in Delhi government said with Omicron cases being on the rise, it was likely that all international passengers arriving in the capital might have to go for mandatory quarantine at hotels near IGI Airport. This measure was being mulled to contain the community spread of the new and highly transmissible variant.
Delhi has been witnessing a sharp increase in the number of fresh Covid-19 cases with the last four days having the highest single-day spike in the last six months. While 331 new cases were recorded on Monday, there were 290 cases on Sunday, 249 on Saturday and 180 on Friday. Each was the highest single-day spike in the last six months at that time.
