BIDEN SORRY FOR TROOPS ‘PARKING CAMP’, JILL OFFERS COOKIES US first lady Jill Biden visited some of the troops stationed outside of the Capitol on Friday and gave them chocolate chip cookies, thanking them for protection during the inauguration ceremony. Amid growing outrage over images of soldiers camped in a cold parking garage, President Biden too called the chief of the National Guard Bureau to offer his apology
Washington: The Biden administration will review the Trump dispensation’s “peace deal’s with the Taliban to determine whether the insurgent group has reduced attacks in Afghanistan in keeping with its side of the agreement, the White House said on Friday. The announcement was among several steps that returned Washington to a traditionalist foreign policy stance and normal business, starting with a Biden phone call to Canada’s PM Justin Trudeau and Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, both US neighbours and allies that had been lacerated during the Trump years.
White House officials said President Biden’s National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan spoke with his Afghan counterpart Hamdullah Mohib and “made clear the US’ intention to review” the deal, specifically if Taliban is “living up to its commitments to cut ties with terrorist groups, to reduce violence in Afghanistan, and to engage in meaningful negotiations with the Afghan government and other stakeholders.”
